Travelers will need a Visa for Czech Republic if they are a citizen of a non-Schengen country without a visa-free travel agreement with the area.

financial means: for a stay of 30 days and less, the applicant is required to possess at least 1,370 CZK* per day (reflecting the existential minimum, which is set at 2,740 CZK per day – half of this amount is required for the visa purposes).

proof of return – information allowing assessment of applicant’s intention to return (most commonly air or other ticket reservation)

Travel medical insurance: the insurance must be valid throughout the entire Schengen Area and cover the entire period of stay (transit). The minimum coverage must be EUR 30,000.

Where do I go to apply for a Czech Visa?

You will need to apply to the Czech embassy or consulate in your country of residence, or a visa application center acting on the nation’s behalf. In many countries - including India - the Czech embassy has outsourced the initial processing of visas to the firm VFS Global and its application centers. Applications are generally lodged in person and biometric data (fingerprints) are collected.

two recently taken passport-style photos

You will also need travel and medical insurance covering you up to costs of €30,000 a cover letter stating your itinerary and the purpose of your visit, as well as a flight itinerary and proof of accommodation during your stay, proof of your civil status, like a marriage certificate, and proof you have means of subsistence during your stay. The amount you need to show you have will vary from country to country.

Those planning to work or study will need additional documents. Proof of sufficient financial means is not specifically stipulated by the Austrian government and is regulated on a case-by-case basis. You can do this by showing bank statements, hotel bookings, and that your income or investments are enough to support yourself during your stay.

Austrian Visa requirements for a work, business, or student visa

If you’re applying for a work visa to Austria, you will need to provide the embassy/consulate with documents that prove you meet the Austrian Schengen Visa requirements based on your employment status. If employed, you need an employment contract, a current bank statement, a no objection letter from your employer giving you leave to travel, and an income tax return. If self-employed, you will need a copy of your business license, company bank statements, and income tax returns. You will also need an invitation letter regardless of whether you are applying for a longer work visa or a short-stay visa for business or study.

Student visas require proof of enrolment at an Austrian institution, a no objection letter from your place of study in your homeland, and an invitation letter.

Steps to follow when applying for an Austrian Schengen Visa

Work out which Austrian Schengen Visa type you need based on the purpose of your travel. Collect the required documents for a visa to Austria. Make a visa appointment with the Austrian Embassy/Consulate or an accredited visa application center in your home country. Attend the visa interview at the appropriate Austrian Embassy. How to Apply for a Portugal Golden Visa?

The process of obtaining a Portuguese Golden Visa is divided as follows:

Step 1: Visit Portugal and Choose Your Investment

You (or your lawyers) should arrange a prior trip to Portugal so you can see your options and kickstart the process of investment. If you are interested in investing in real estate, during your initial visit, you will visit properties, meet with lawyers, and (if it is your preference) grant power of attorney to a representative.

If you want to invest in one of the other options, your lawyer will help you set up the necessary meetings and documents for the transfer.

If you are from a country with visa requirements, you may need a Portuguese Schengen visa to visit Portugal for this short initial trip.

Step 2: Set Up a Portuguese Bank Account and Tax Number

Before you can finalise your investment, you will need a Portuguese tax number and bank account.

You can obtain a tax number, also known as a NIF number (Número de Identificação Fiscal)  at the local office for Tax and Customs Authority (the Taxpayer Registration Services). There will be a set of forms you must complete (provided by the tax office) and documents to submit regarding your need for a Portuguese tax number.

You can set up a bank account with any trusted financial institution in Portugal. The process is pretty straightforward, the same as anywhere else in the world – you just visit the bank and ask to have a bank account set up.

For both these processes, you must have documents proving your income, home address, and identification document.

Step 3: Complete Your Investment

Once you have set up your bank account and the tax number, you can finally complete your investment.  The investment can take months to be finalised; you cannot apply for the Golden Visa until you have the necessary documents proving you have secured it.

After you have finalised your investment, you can return home to collect the required documents and apply for the Portuguese Golden Visa.

Step 4: Apply for the Portuguese Golden Visa

Once your investment has been completed, you can finally submit the application for a Portuguese Golden Visa at the Immigration and Borders Service (SEF). The process is as follows:

Register with the ARI Portal (Residence Permits for Investment Activities) here. ARI is the SEF’s online portal for handling Golden Visa Applications. You can register yourself or a legal representative may do it on your behalf.

Attach electronic copies of the required documents (in PDF, and no bigger than 4MB).

Pay all the relevant fees.

Wait for confirmation from the SEF.

Schedule an appointment to submit your Golden Visa application at a local branch of the SEF.

If you do not wish to apply for the visa in person, you can give Power of Attorney (POA) to a legal representative to apply on your behalf, such as golden visas experts at La Vida. Your legal representative can then submit the visa application for you and your family members, as well as help you perform your investment.

Step 5: Receive Your Portuguese Residence Permit

After you submit your application, it can take from three to six months to receive your residence permit card. The card is valid for one year initially and can be renewed for a maximum of five years.

With your Portuguese residence permit card, you can live and work in Portugal freely, and enjoy the same benefits as all other Portuguese citizens and residents.

Final Step: Apply for Permanent Residency or Citizenship

Five years after making your investment, you become eligible to apply for Portuguese citizenship or permanent residency. At this point, you will need to demonstrate that you have ties to Portugal and pass a general knowledge test. The test proves that you can speak Portuguese at at least an A2 level (conversational) and you have general knowledge of Portuguese society and laws. There are no residency requirements.

Payment receipt from the ARI portal.

Any documents related to your investment, as detailed below.

Purchasing real estate property worth at least €500,000:

Acquisition deed of the property or the pre-contract agreement.

Declaration from a financial institution authorised or registered in Portugal, which proves the effective international transfer of the assets.

The Land Register Certificate along with the records, endorsements, and registration in force, attests to the ownership of the property.

The legal description of the property, if applicable.

Investment of  €350,000 in a property in a Portuguese urban regeneration area:

Document Guidelines

The documents you submit for the Portuguese Golden visa application should be translated either in English or Portuguese, as requested. Translations should be done by a certified translator.

Some documents, such as civil status documents, must also be legalised through an Apostille Stamp.

The Validity of Portugal Golden Visa

The Portugal Golden Visa is initially valid for one year. You can then continue to renew it for two-year periods, provided that you have maintained your investment. After five years (1+2+2) you become eligible for permanent residence or citizenship.

How Long Do You Have to Live in Portugal to Maintain a Golden Visa?

To maintain your Portugal Golden Visa, you have to stay in the country for at least 7 days in the first year and then fourteen days in the following two-year periods.

Unlike other types of investment visas, you do not have to live in Portugal permanently in order to renew your Golden Visa or to receive permanent residence or citizenship.

Taxes in Portugal for Golden Visa Investors

If you are a non-resident: You are not taxed on income obtained abroad if you do not live in Portugal. As a non-resident, you only pay tax for income obtained within Portugal, such as from renting out real estate.

If you are a resident: If you are a resident in Portugal, then you have to pay tax on any income obtained abroad.

Taxable income in Portugal is considered:

The tax rate in Portugal is from 14,50% to 48% (for income higher than €80,882). Rental income in Portugal is taxed at a flat rate of 28%.

Who Is Considered a Resident in Portugal for Tax Purposes?

You are considered a taxable resident if you live in Portugal for at least 183 days out of the year. It does not have to be 183 consecutive days. With a Golden Visa, you can maintain your residence permit without actually residing in Portugal, therefore you are exempt from paying income tax on income from abroad.

Remember, any income that comes from inside Portugal will still be subject to tax, even if you live abroad.

What is Portugal's Golden Visa?

The Portuguese Golden Visa allows people to apply for permanent residency and citizenship after 5 years through investing in real estate, without having to reside in the country at any point. It’s such an attractive option due to its relaxed regulations, as the applicant and their family only have to visit for two weeks every year to renew the Visa.

This means that you can be granted citizenship without actually living in the country, which is different to many other countries worldwide. Once you have a second passport through being a citizen of Portugal, you can live, work and study anywhere in the EU, also making it an attractive proposition.

In order to obtain Portugal’s Golden Visa, there are some requirements that must be met to ensure a successful application. Some of these include:

What are the changes for January 2022?

In the Algarve, investment in areas such as Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Monchique and Vila do Bispo, the Loulé parishes of Alte, Ameixial, Salir, the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim, the parish of São Marcos da Serra in the borough of Silves, and the parishes of Cachopo and Santa Catarina da Fontes do Bispo in the municipality of Tavira, will still be permitted after January 1st, 2022.

There is also the option of purchasing properties in touristic developments throughout the Algarve, offering you the unique opportunity to own a hands-off, turnkey investment property that will generate you rental income throughout the Golden Visa process.

This gives investors lots of different options in the Algarve and may force many to look at hidden gems in new areas instead of the obvious locations.

Buying a property in Portugal is the most popular way of obtaining Portugal’s Golden Visa, however, there are other ways of investing into the country. These include:

Make a capital transfer of at least 1,000,000€ (one million euros)
Create at least 10 job positions
Make a capital transfer of at least 350,000€ (three hundred and fifty thousand euros) for investing in research activities conducted by private or public scientific research institutions involved in the national scientific or technological system

Make a capital transfer of at least 250,000€ (two hundred and fifty thousand euros) for investing in artistic output or supporting the arts, for reconstruction or refurbishment of the national heritage, through the local and central authorities, public institutions, public corporate sector, public foundations, private foundations of public interest, networked local authorities, local corporate sector organisations, local associations and public cultural associations, pursuing activities of artistic output, and reconstruction or maintenance of the national heritage

Make a capital transfer of at least 500,000€ (five hundred thousand euros), for purchasing shares in investment funds or in venture capital geared to capitalise small and medium companies that, in turn, must present a feasible capitalisation plan.
